ALBerta Emission Registry Tracker

Last Updated: Tuesday, May 23, 2023

Welcome to ALBERT - the ALBerta Emission Registry Tracker.  Updated weekly, ALBERT provides a graphical interface to understand Offset and Emission Performance Credit activity recorded on the Alberta Emission Offset Registry (AEOR) and the Alberta Emission Performance Credit Registry

These two registries make up the regulated carbon market in Alberta, and respectively track voluntary greenhouse gas emissions reductions made by non-regulated entities, which have been converted into tradeable Offset Credits (OCs), and greenhouse gas emissions reductions made by regulated entities, which are recorded as Emission Performance Credits (EPCs).  These are created and traded under the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Regulation in Alberta.

Each Offset Credit (OC) or Emission Performance Credit (EPC) = 1 tonne carbon dioxide-equivalent (t CO2e).

Note that in each chart, you can click on the legend entries to turn categories "on" and "off".

Of which:

Offset Credits: 81,968,353 tCO2e

EPCs: 44,183,379 tCO2e

NOTE: Active OCs are those that are still available for compliance. Cancelled OCs include those that have been revoked or removed.  Locked In Transaction OCs are moving from one account to another (i.e. usually sales). Retired OCs are those that have been used for compliance.

NOTE: Where Protocols have been superceded, the totals include OCs registered under previous Protocol versions.

Currently Active Credits:
37,304,834 tCO2e

Breakdown:

Offset Credits:  22,270,389 tCO2e

EPCs: 15,034,445 tCO2e

NOTE: "Ongoing" projects have a crediting end date in the future and therefore may still be able to create offset credits.  "Ended" projects are those whose crediting end date has passed and can no longer create new offset credits.

NOTE: Where Protocols have been superceded, the totals include OCs registered under previous Protocol versions.
