We're carbon neutral, and we'll stay that way

In 2019, we published our first, baseline GHG inventory - or carbon footprint. This quantified the GHG emissions from our office and travel, and set a number of actions for us to follow in reducing our footprint.

Firefly is pleased to publish our follow-up report - our 2020 Carbon Footprint and Climate Commitment. To read the full report, head over here.

This report outlines that our 2020 GHG releases are much lower than our 2019 emissions, mainly due to greatly reduced travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, but also due to the ongoing "greening" of the Alberta electricity grid and due to actions taken by Firefly in 2019 and 2020 to directly reduce our emissions.

We achieved carbon neutrality in 2020 through a combination of purchasing green electricity, exporting surplus clean energy from our solar PV system, and through funding tree planting.

One of our core values as a business is to "walk the talk" on climate change. With this report, we publicly commit to continuing to publish an annual GHG inventory report and to operating as a carbon neutral business for every year hereon.
